I am in! I haven't given my budget a good hard tweak in a good year. These kind of challenges really help. March 15 is my sister's birthday and then it will be game on!

Ok this is what I have been up to. I have crushed expenses so much in the past I am doing good there. There are some things that I have been able to do. One is to get rid of a few things I had laying around and I wasn't using. I am reorganizing my place and selling off items we no longer use. I have dropped a few sizes so all of my old clothes are going into a lot to go up for sale. I will sell them for less than thrift store prices plus it will be a great deal on the lot. This way someone pays to take away items I can no longer use and I can use the money to purchase new used clothes in a smaller size. I am about to be in trouble in the next size down so this really is needed anyway.

Part of the problem with me reorganizing was I needed some clear storage bins. I found them on sale at a grocery store for $9.49 for 10 bins with the lids. I went home and sold off some couponing stockpile items I was not using. I came up with enough cash to get 4 x 10 packs of the bins and bought some used scrapbooking supplies and clearance ink pads to boot.
If I had gone to the loonie store and picked up bins it would have been 1.50 each. If I had bought the scrapbooking punches new online it would have been $60 USD ($79.61) instead of $18 on a facebook auction. If I had bought the inks at a normal online store they would have cost $10.99 USD instead of $6.88 USD each. (Mom and I both put in a order together to save on shipping too) The point is, even though it was free money, I made that stretch as far as possible. Now I can finish reorganizing my kitchen cabinets, my bathroom cabinets, my stockpile and my crafts as well.

Do I spend some money? Yes, absolutely! I spend money on crafts and camping gear within reason. I do not eat out, I do not go to movies. They are entertainment and if it doesn't fall in budget I have to not buy or find another way. Cash is king in this house! :)

Glad to hear you've already got your TV costs under control ($0) and you're doing lots of other things to crush your costs. You're better than me avoiding eating out and movies all together! I know those are huge luxury expenses, but they also happen to be 2 things that I really enjoy.

Nothing wrong with spending money - we just need to be smart about and spend in the areas that we value the most.
