No answer is a wrong answer as to how you'd use the money. I'm OK with just blowing a bit of money every now and then to have a good time. I tend to do this when I go on vacation. I save money before I go on vacation, so we can just do what we want when we're on the actual trip.

I even volunteered at one of the distribution centers one year, which was pretty fun. I may start up again now that my kids are getting older as a fun thing to do with them a Christmas time.

I want to get an air purifier since I have allergies year round. Not to mention my neighbours love to smoke marijuana often, which I've reported to my building. I usually leave the window ajar when I sleep but, can't as I wake up and start sneezing when I smell cigarettes or mj. If an air purifier is not possible, a bread maker from Japan that can turn rice grain to bread. I also have food allergies which takes a toll on the finances as I buy products that doesn't have wheat, which is not cheap. I'm only 17, and all my life my family hasn't had that much money. No matter how hard we struggled for money, my parents always did their best to try to get me whatever I wanted. (And I don't mean they spoiled me) but they did whatever they could to try to make me feel special. I would be forever grateful if I could give back to them some how. Winning even the smallest amount of money would make me so happy, because I could help my parents pay some bills. I would use the money to give back to my parents. They have helped me a lot with school and with every day expenses.
I'm also a student, who spends more time in school than working, and because of that, bill payments and school fees can be tight.

I would love to give to charity as well. There's so much I would like to do but as a student, it's tough.

Thanks for the opportunity to win. God bless.

You can't do everything Sabrina, so don't stress yourself out about it too badly. People know that when you're a student funds are tight and you only have limited means. Do your best to set yourself up for the future and once you have a full time job you can make more room to do those extra things you've been wanting to do.

Retirement celebration - sounds heavenly! What better way to celebrate a long working life contributing to society than taking a nice vacation? That's great.

I have 4 kids and finances are very tight this year for the holidays. I would help another family in need for the holidays as well as get a big healthy grocery for my family. It would also enable me to put and wrap a few things under the tree :)

Thank you :)

Maybe take 10% and put it towards something a little more fun? 90% is still a good allotment to put towards those bills.

Solid advice Elizabeth. Reducing your expenses with money saving techniques is a great way to make sure that you have enough money to pay for those essential things that you mentioned.

I had to buy a new freezer recently even though my last one was only a few years old. They certainly don't make them like they used to anymore. My parents have  a fridge/freezer that is still going from the 1970s or earlier.

Yes, almost all of us here in North America are very privileged with the kinds of everyday things we've grown accustomed to. We definitely need to remember how fortunate we are.

As I am currently unemployed, naturally I would use the $1000 for my living expenses- monthly bills and food. However, as this is about saving money, I would go to a store such as Giant Tiger instead of the more typically popular grocery stores like Safeway or Save On Foods, thereby stretching the money even further! : )

Giant Tiger is an interesting store. You can definitely save some money there, but I often wonder where they source some of their products from because most of them look quite different from what you see in a typical grocery store.

That's terrible Melissa. Credit cards aren't a great way to borrow money because of their ridiculous interest rates. Trying to find a low interest loan from another source would probably be a good idea to help you pay less in interest while you are getting the debt paid off. This recent article I wrote might help:

Also, try calling your credit card company, explain your situation, and see if there is anything they can do to lower your interest rate!
