$1000 Cash HUGE Christmas Giveaway!

$1000 cash Christmas giveaway 2014Last year I gave away $1000 of my own money for the first time while I was barely earning anything from this site. Back then I had a full time day job and worked on How To Save Money in the evenings - it was still hard to part with that much money, but I'm glad I did!

Turns out it was a great success and this year the site is earning considerably more money, mostly from advertising and partially thanks to last year's giveaway. However, recently I made the decision to try and make my living online full time and have seen my income take a huge nosedive - *gulp*. The giveaway was so popular before though that I really wanted to bring it back again this year, so here it is again!

The Prizes

The prizes from me are going to be the same as last year, all cash coming straight out of my pocket!

I'm not going to try and source prizes from other bloggers this year because I feel like I tapped them out last year and don't want to always be coming after the same people for money. Thanks for the donations in 2013 guys, if you really want to participate again this year, let me know.

Fortunately, Luke from Tinker and Hack stepped up at the last minute to generously donate $250 worth of free technology of the winner's choice as an amazing 6th prize so there's even more than $1000 available to win again this year.

  • 1st Prize - $500 cash
  • 2nd Prize - $250 cash
  • 3rd Prize - $150 cash
  • 4th Prize - $50 cash
  • 5th Prize - $50 cash
  • 6th Prize - $250 custom technology prize package (courtesy of Tinker And Hack)
    • Your choice of $250 worth of any products that they sell shipped to your door hopefully in time for Christmas!
Get a top flexible travel credit card.
Plus a travel bonus worth another $150.
Offer ends December 21, 2018.

Total Prize Value: $1250

My pleasure. I was pretty surprised when Luke offered $250 at the last minute. I asked him for a donation of one prize he probably already had lying around and he came back and offered $250 on anything they sell. Definitely going to make a happy person this Christmas - especially if they can cut their cable bill!

You hit the nail on the head John. The site is all about doing research and sharing the results with you guys. Filipinos who live abroad are always so generous in sending money back to the Philippines to help there loved ones there even if they don't have a lot of extra to spare. Cost of living here is much higher, but fortunately a little bit of Canadian money can go a long way in the Philippines.

What would I do if I won the $1000 HUGE CHRISTMAS CA$H GIVEAWAY?!

Simple. I would spread a little Christmas spirit to those who need it the most during this Holiday season. I would certainly ensure a holly jolly Christmas is had by all, purchase small gifts for families who cannot afford to provide for their children, and a Christmas dinner to warm the souls of those individuals on the street bearing the frigid temperatures of old man winter. Finally, a gift for my family, the most important thing in my life. After all, isn't that what Christmas is all about?

Did I mention, I will do this all while GoPro'ing my story as it unfolds, and creating an edit for all to see and appreciate? Let's spread a little good karma folks!

The choice is yours. :)

I would use the money to provide a memorable Christmas for my husband. He is the survivor of a rare stroke (hitting both sides of the brain), which resulted in permanent neurological damage and mobility issues. Last Thanksgiving he had another set-back and had to have emergency heart surgery. Due to his health, I have had to leave my full-time job to be his caregiver. Despite everything, he is my hero. He never complains about why this had to happen to him, but treats every day together as a gift. Christmas has always been his favourite holiday, and when well, he always made it special for me. For the past couple of years, we have not been able to have much of one, since financially it has been extremely difficult. For one year, I would love to be able to create as special a holiday for him as he used to for me. One of his dreams for years has been to go to a Maple Leafs game - he is a HUGE fan. If I could, I would love to make this dream come true for him. Blessings on you for giving people the chance to even dream of creating something special for the people they love. Merry Christmas to you!

Stephen Weyman
Stephen Weyman's picture

Thanks for the kind words Shari! I know what it's like to have a family member go through a life changing stroke as my mother went through one and lost most of the motion and feeling in her left side. Fortunately, over a period of years she recovered almost completely so she can live a normal life. It sounds like your husband's stroke did much more permanent damage.

I hope you are able to make that Leaf's game happen for him this year! It's great that he doesn't complain too because I live with Type 1 Diabetes. It's a challenging illness, but not nearly as bad as what your husband is going through and I find it hard not to complain sometimes. Best of luck!

My grandmother had Alzheimers and that was a real tragedy. I remember taking her to see "You've Got Mail" at the cinema. One of the only times I went to see a movie with her. On the way to see the movie she must have asked me where we were going 20 times. It was all I could do not to bawl in front of her but I held it in because I knew it would just confuse and upset her. We had a good time at the movie though and it's a memory I will remember forever!

I cannot participate because I live in Quebec, but I shared anyway!
Good luck, folks!
(I HATE this stupid Quebec's law!)

I feel bad about the Quebec thing. It's a ton of working running this giveaway as it is and I wanted to make sure I was as close to on the right side of the law as I could be. I just don't have the time to invest in making sure I can offer the giveaway to Quebec residents as well. Such a shame. They should change that law.

I would use some of it to help a poor family celebrate Christmas. The rest I would use for my own debt.

If I were to win the money I finally be able to afford giving my parents a present. My Dad was layed off from his job and now there wont be much going on during Christmas time. The money would bring some cheer to our family.

I like what I see in the comments from some of your readers where they will donate/share their winnings with those who are less fortunate. I'm going to do the same. For a couple of years now, I've spread the word to those who ask me what I want tor Xmas. I ask them to donate to a local charity or to a worthy cause in my name. Its the holiday season and there are countless number of people who could use a little boost at this time of year.

Happy holidays everyone and good luck! :)

That's a great idea about requesting people make donations instead of giving you gifts. My mom has done something similar a few years where she will make donations on behalf of a person that would normally receive a gift instead of giving gifts at Christmas time.

I`m a college student and am finally going to be done with school, so if I won this money I would love to start a new chapter in my life without any debt from my student loan. I think this money would really help me out so much

I was fortunate enough to graduate from university without any debt having gone to a cheaper university close to home, working summer jobs, and having a scholarship that covered part of my tuition. My parents also gave me a little help with purchasing textbooks.

Since I was laid off from work I could use the money to pay off some bills and then use some to help out others who are less fortunate. My mom works at a food bank so I think donating some food would go a long way. Merry Christmas!!

Having suffered from breast cancer this past year(had to have both removed) and now struggling to help my mom with lung cancer - money has become very tight. We need our car repaired so I can continue to travel the 45 minute drive to help out mom. I also have a child who really wants to sign up for baseball this year but I cannot afford it.

Cancer is such a terrible disease. We're currently living a lifestyle in the hopes to minimize our risk of cancer. Check out the book "The China Study" by Dr. Campbell if you are interested. Best of luck with your fight and your mother's fight and I hope your kid gets to play baseball this summer too!

Hi if I won I would give my family a wonderful Christmas because we cannot afford gifts last year or this and I would really like to give them one last good one because I am afraid it may be my last because I have been fighting Lymphoma cancer for 9 years and now have a very aggressive one and I am running out of options for treatment. Thank you
