Free shipping makes all the difference in your buying decision. Sure, the cost of shipping is built into the price anyway … but after you’ve decided to buy you want to know the price isn’t going to skyrocket at the checkout.

Some companies like Amazon.ca are able to offer low prices AND free shipping because of their size and lack of expensive storefronts to maintain. Then it’s win-win.

My favourite trick?

Find the lowest price at one store, and then price match at a different store that has cheap or free shipping for increased savings.

Hi Stephen,
What about Canadian Tire?

Last I checked Canadian Tire doesn't currently ship to home addresses. They will let you reserve stuff in store and possibly ship to a local store if they don't stock at a local store though.

Great information but I would point out that Costco pads their price to include shipping. If the same item is in the store, you will notice that it is less expensive that ordering online. Still it's a great service and the cost difference isn't that much more.

Indeed this is true. Fundamentally I would say it is true of all stores - there is no such thing as free shipping. But, it is nice to know how much you will actually be paying before you get to the checkout. It allows for better decision making.

This one is not a Canadian company, but L.L.Bean offers free shipping to Canada as well. I'm pretty sure there's no minimum purchase either.

Hi Stephen,
I don't see Vitasave.ca in your list for supplements. They have good prices too.

Some stores like The Source offer free shipping to a local store of your choice, which i often prefer with small items. Lot safer than having items left on the doorstep and i can control when i pick up. Had DVDs stolen one time with a shipment from BestBuy. Hassle to get the money refunded.

Wayfair.ca Free shipping over $75.00. Sunshine Coast oils (from British Columbia) has Canada wide shipping for $15.00 no matter the size of your order. Awesome products!

Chapters/Indigo usually has a minimum spend, however, often has free shipping events. I enjoy ordering from them as they are fast and I've never had a problem with an order.

This is great info indeed however not always accurate. Many of the stores listed on your list only ship free to certain parts of Canada and not everywhere in Canada. I live in the north and there are actually only a hand full of stores that will ship to the territories free with a certain amount of purchase. I hope this gives you some food for thought.

Yes, there are certain regions where getting free shipping is particularly difficult. It isn't really feasible to track it to that level of detail though.

The good news is that people who live in expensive shipping destinations already know that and will expect to pay extra for shipping. It's still a good starting point to try out a new store that offers free shipping and see if you qualify from a remote area :)
