Update: Citi is no longer accepting new applications for this card.

The Citi Enrich MasterCard is a very solid cash back card with many some good benefits (if you have the platinum version), including a few that are unique to cards offered by Citi. Although there is a limit to how much cash back you can earn yearly with this card and other cards exist with higher returns, it remained a very popular card amongst the credit card savvy in Canada for a long time. Since the introduction of the MBNA Smart Cash MasterCard in 2009, its popularity has decreased substantially, but it is still a good all around card. When the Amex Gold Cash Back card was still taking new sign ups, this was a popular choice as a secondary card for people who collected cash back and couldn’t use their Amex at those merchants that didn’t accept it or once their yearly maximum was reached. However, now that the platinum version of the card has been eliminated, it is hard to recommend this card above some of the other competing cash back credit cards.

Positives:

  • Solid non-tiered cash back rate of 1%.
  • Only $15,000 minimum income required for the standard version.
  • Citi is one of the only card issuers to offer price protection insurance.
  • Free secondary cards.
  • No annual fee, which is rare for a platinum card!
  • Has great perks for a no annual fee card.

Negatives:

  • Maximum $250 (standard) or $500 (platinum) cash back per year.
  • Platinum version of the card is no longer available.
  • Many of the better benefits disappeared along with the platinum version.

Insurance Package:

  • Price protection - 60 days, $100 item maximum, $500 annual maximum.
  • Extended Warranty – up to 1 year.
  • Purchase Protection – 90 days.
  • Extended Warranty – up to 1 year.
  • Travel Accident - $500,000.
  • Car Rental Theft & Damage (CDW & LDW).

Minor Perks:

  • Call centre assistance for almost any unexpected problem while traveling:
    • Arrange payment for emergency services.
    • Find medical or legal assistance (costs paid by you).
    • Lost document and ticket replacement (costs paid by you).
    • Lost baggage assistance (costs paid by you).
    • Pre-trip planning information (entry requirements, vaccinations, etc).
